“CDC Investigates 4 Possible Cases of AFM in Michigan”

The recent outbreak of AFM is causing a scare around the nation. AFM, or acute flaccid myelitis, is a polio-like illness that causes muscle weakness and paralysis.

AFM affects mainly children and is currently not believed to be contagious. The CDC has not determined the exact cause of the illness, but believe it may be a complication of a viral infection with environmental factors contributing to the contraction of AFM.
